Top 5 World Cup Adverts
The World Cup is already under way and the competition is fierce with teams fighting for glory and a place in history. At the same time there is another battle going on, a battle of adverts that have gone above and beyond to creatively exploit this summer’s soccer festival in Brazil.
Struggling to keep up with the sheer volume of World Cup adverts? Here are five you need to see.
1. Beats by Dre: The Game Before The Game
With more than 10 million views already, this advert for Beats by Dre features World Cup class acts like Neymar, Götze and Robin Van Persie wearing headsets from Apple’s latest acquisition. Clocking in at over five minutes, the huge budget video also includes celebrities and brand ambassadors such as Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and LeBron James.
2. McDonald’s: Gol!
Submitted by a GoExplore reader, this McDonald’s World Cup advert has nothing to do with Happy Meals or Big Macs. The video features the most unlikely protagonists showcasing their football skills on the road, at the back of a car, in a mall, a beach and before a night out. A young girl in heels, an old man and three young boys show us that all we need to create some magic is a ball.
3. Nike: The Last game
Nike World Cup ads never fail to deliver – their latest presents a parallel universe in which machines take over the beautiful game, taking away its imagination, impulse and risk. The fate of the world’s most beloved sport is determined in a match between the machines and our chosen eleven who feature the likes of Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimović. Guided by Brazilian legend Ronaldo, the match goes down to the wire but we won’t tell you who wins. Watch it!
4. Adidas: The Dream
In one of two great adverts from Adidas this year, we are welcomed into Lionel Messi’s dream. Inside the Argentine’s mind we see soccer snippets featuring stars like Luis Suárez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Dani Alves and Robin Van Persie that try to turn Messi’s dream into a nightmare. In the ad we also see the new boots especially designed for the World Cup as well as the official ball of the tournament.
5. Adidas: House Match
What happens when David Beckham invites Zinedine Zidane, Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale to his house for a console game? This advert shows us the pairing of Beckham and Zidane being beaten in a digital game of football by their younger counterparts. When they challenge them to a real game of football the match takes place in the house – will Becks’ furnishings survive?
