Flappy Bird: It’s Back
Just when we’d all started to forget about the most addictive, infuriating game of all time; just when we were getting our lives back on track; just when you thought you were out… the pixelated bird pulls you right back in.
That’s right, app fans, Dong Nguyen is bringing a multiplayer version of the game to the masses in August. If the first version is anything to go by – with reports claiming it was earning $50,000 a day from in-app advertisements – this will make the Vietnamese genius a very rich man.
CNBC correspondent Kelly Evans tweeted “Flappy Bird’s Dong Nguyen: Flappy Bird is coming back. Multiplayer. August.” The official CNBC account later verified Evans’ tweet.
Nguyen pulled the game back in January, as he was worried the game’s popularity and addictive nature was unhealthy and damaging to society. In an interview with Forbes in February he said, “It happened to become an addictive product. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever.”
Flappy Bird was created and developed by Nguyen in the span of two or three days, originally designed in 2012 for a cancelled platform game. It was released on May 24, 2013 and ended January 2014 as the most downloaded app on the App Store.
