The Simpsons meets Minecraft

Screen Shot 2014-04-07 at 13.22.02

It’s been a good year for people who sit in the middle of the Ven diagram entitled ‘People who like The Simpsons’ and ‘People who like angular art’. Back in January we caught a glimpse of the official Legos Simpsons set, and now the show itself has devoted its entire intro to Minecraft.

The scenery is extra blockey, and the whole family is recreated in the familiar Minecraft style, with square heads and rectangular extremities. There’s even a cameo from Moe Szyslak as an exploding creeper right at the end, just in case the reference was a bit too subtle for you.

Markus Persson, (@notch) the creator of Minecraft was adorably modest about the send-up, stating “I STILL feel a bit like it’s just this small game I made at home. It’s so weird to have all these things happen. <3”.

This ‘small game’ has now sold a jaw dropping 40m copies across PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, PS3, Android and iPhone. It’ll also be coming to Xbox One, Playstation 4, Playstation Vita and probably smartfridges later this year. Though still not Wii U.

You can watch the whole clip below. What’s your favorite Simpsons couch gag?

And just for some balance, here it is the other way round: The Simpsons intro done in Minecraft:
