Future Tech:

Wearhaus ARC: the first ‘social headphones’?

Trends in headphone tech seem to change with each new day, so whether it’s in-ear or over-ear, big, small or 3D-Printed – it’s really anybody’s guess as to what is best. But now there’s yet another factor being thrown into the mix, with a new set of ‘social headphones’ making noise on Kickstarter.

Wearhaus Arc is hoping to turn music back into a social experience – making it easier to share your favorite tunes even with your headphones on. With ARC you can sync two sets of headphones wirelessly via Bluetooth, so you can enjoy music together or introduce a friend to the artists you love.

Additionally, you can connect Arc to the Wearhaus app, where you can listen to a feed of different stations and even change their colour. Wearhaus is looking to raise $50,000 on Kickstarter, of which over $30,000 has already been pledged with 29 days to go.

The company explained the product on its Kickstarter page: “Music is a social experience – much more so than your headphones currently allow for. It’s a way to express your individual taste and a key part of your own style and personality.

“The Wearhaus Arc is a reimagining of this classic piece of hardware; with all the changes in how we share and listen to music, it’s about time headphones evolved to keep up.”

While Wearhaus Arc look the part, its point-of-difference is social sharing and for that to work it’ll need big sales. At $159 a pair that’ll take some doing, but if the popularity on Kickstarter is anything to go by, then just maybe social headphones could be the next big thing.
