How much would The Truman Show cost to make for real?

The Truman Show – a critically acclaimed movie about one man’s life being turned into a fly-on-the-wall documentary without his knowledge – was released 16 years ago this month. Without wanting you to feel too old, if it were a person, it would be entering its Sophomore year at High School.

But what would a documentary like The Truman Show cost if it was made in real life? Would it be possible, and – more importantly for all you evil marketeers looking for a Truman to exploit – would it turn a profit? Surely not.

Well, thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can wonder no more. Someone asked Reddit, and Reddit being Reddit, someone answered. In brilliant detail. Here, we’ve taken that superb question and answer and made it into this handy-dandy infographic.

So, if you’re ever wondering if millions of people are watching you worldwide, you can check the stats and realize that it’s not such a far-fetched idea afterall – so do something interesting to improve those ratings, why don’t you?

As a final footnote, ‘The Truman Show Delusion‘ – people who believe their lives are filmed without their knowledge for worldwide broadcast – is said to have had over 40 cases reported worldwide. This infographic won’t be much use to sufferers of the condition. Sorry about that.
