They Did What?:

You can buy this giant Iron Man Suit on Amazon for $1 million

“Customers who bought Iron Man [DVD] also bought this enormous robot.”

Amazon might have started life as a bookseller, but go deep enough into the depths of ‘The Everything Store’ and you’ll be surprised at what you can find. Case in point – this humongous, 5 ton robot suit that can be controlled with an iPhone.

The 13-foot Kuratas robot has been in development for several years, but it’s never been available to buy before it appeared on Amazon’s Japanese store last week. If you want to buy it, though, it’s time to start saving – it’s priced at $1 million plus sizeable shipping costs. The Kuratas listing also describes the robot as a ‘kit’, so you’re also going to need to build it yourself – as simple as IKEA furniture, probably.

While the robot isn’t capable of walking, it has four wheels and can be driven at the modest speed of 6mph (10 km/h). So, you can boss it around and send it to scare your neighbours from your iPhone, or you can climb inside its chest and control it from the inside like your very own Iron Man suit.

This $1 million ‘toy’ is available in 16 colours including red, black and pink.

Kuratas is being described as a ‘toy’ by the company, available in 16 different colours including red, black and pink. The robot has 30 hydraulic joints which can be moved and controlled via motion control or the ‘Master-Slave system’ for which you’ll just need a 3G network connection.

Kogoro Kuratas, the designer of the metal monster, told the verge back in 2012: “When I was a kid, I thought there were going to be giant robots in the future. But no matter how long I waited, people were only able to make small robots, like Asimo. Eventually, I thought ‘I can’t wait anymore,’ and set out to make one myself.'”

If you feel the same about giant robots, head over to Amazon and add Kuratas to your cart. You may have to be quick, though, as they’re not mass producing these things and only one unit is available to buy for now.
