The world’s largest hot-air balloon festival is a sight for sore eyes
You most probably know Albuquerque, New Mexico as the place where Walter White was ‘Breaking Bad’ for the past 6 years. But while the hit series is now done, the city remains in the spotlight for an altogether more wholesome reason – the record-breaking Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
Taking place from October 4-12, 2014 at the Balloon Fiesta Park, this is considered the largest hot air balloon event in the world with 750 balloons colouring the sky of New Mexico.
Luckily for those not around to witness it, the spectacular sight was neatly captured in this time-lapse video by Knate Myers. He describes the event on Vimeo: “Every year the city of Albuquerque host the largest hot air balloon event in the world, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
“Each morning begins very early as a group of 6-12 hot air balloons known as Dawn Patrol, ascent into the deep blue sky before sunrise. These skilled pilots test wind and weather conditions as other pilots and crew begin to lay out hundreds of balloons across the field.
“Just a dawn begins to break, the next wave of balloons begin to lift off. When the sun rises above the Sandia Mountains it simultaneously fills the morning with beautiful light as the balloons fill the sky with color. The next 60-90 minutes are a great mix of fun and chaos as several hundred more balloons lift off, wave after wave.”
