Inside Samsung’s dog kennel of the future
What do the good folks at Samsung do when they’re not designing a dizzying number of smartphones? They design a kennel for the most spoiled dog in town, of course.
With a pricetag of £20,000 ($30,223), your dog is going to be saving for quite a while – at least a decade in dog years – but it’s sure to make any pedigree pup rapidly forget how the other half live.
It’s packed with the kind of things we wish we could afford for the Go Explore office: an entertainment wall, hot tub, astroturf treadmill and paw operated snack dispenser. Okay, fine, we’ve got a fridge and a screen – but the fact ours currently shows a mutt confusedly watching the Crufts footage tells us that something’s not quite right with the world.
It took a team of 12 designers over six weeks to come up with the Samsung Dream Doghouse. We like to think at least half of that time was spent asking the seemingly obvious question, “does a dog really need a hot tub?”
“With the Samsung Dream Doghouse, we wanted to reflect the nation’s growing trend for using technology,” said Andy Griffiths, president of Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland.
“From dogs who have social media profiles to owners who use video calling to check on their pet while away, technology is fast becoming an integral part of everyday life,” he continued, seemingly not realizing that said owners are the SAME PEOPLE who run the dogs’ social media profiles.
“The Samsung Dream Doghouse looks sleek and modern, featuring the kind of tech the discerning dog of the future will need,” he added, perhaps overestimating how discerning pets that routinely drink from the toilet bowl can actually be.
Now make this in human sizes, and we might be interested. Especially if you replace the treats with Junior Mints.
