Science:

World’s favorite number finally revealed

world's favourite number

At last!

A Brazilian mathematician and author has uncovered the planet’s favorite number.

Alex Bellos’ survey polled more than 30,000 people from across the world. More than a thousand individual favorite numbers were submitted and the full list can be downloaded here.

And without further ado (the tension is unbearable, isn’t it?) the winner was… wait for it… number seven!

That’s what I was going to say!

Mr Bellos, whose new book Alex Through The Looking Glass is out now, describes seven as ‘unique, the loner, the outsider’, as it is the only number between one and ten that cannot be multiplied or divided from within the group.

He says: “I conducted this experiment because I am fascinated by the emotional responses many of us have to numbers. The survey asked those taking part to nominate their favorite number and explain why they feel that way.”

And the world’s least favorite number, according to Bellos, was, of course, 110; the absolute loser.

Here are the top ten most popular numbers:

1 Seven
2 Three
3 Eight
4 Four
5 Five
6 Thirteen
7 Nine
8 Six
9 Two
10 Eleven
