Take a ride on Verrückt, the world’s tallest waterslide
Earlier this year you may remember we reported on the ‘World’s Wildest Waterslides‘. Well, today, number two on that very list, Verrückt – the world’s tallest slide – finally opened for business.
The 17-story, 168-foot-tall monster was originally planned to open in May, but had to be reconfigured after rather worrying reports that early tests were witnessing sandbag-filled rafts flying off the sides and hurtling towards the ground.
How ferocious can a slide be?
Taller than Niagra falls, Verrückt – which incidentally means ‘insane’ in German – shoots riders, in a three-person raft, down one long shoot, touching speeds in region of 50 – 60 miles per hour. Reports have noted that rafts have even speeded down at up to 70 miles per hour.

The main attraction at Schillterbahn Waterpark, the Guinness World Record setting slide – taking the title from the Kilimanjaro slide in Brazil – has been open to the media and VIP guests on its first day of business.
If you want to take the plunge you must be at least 54 inches tall and 14 years old. The combined weight of riders per raft must be between 400 and 550 pounds. There’s a scale at the bottom of the tower to make sure your team is eligible before you all set off on the 264-step, seven-minute climb to the top.
